Featured Artist: Hib Sabin

Hib Sabin was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1935. His accolades include degrees in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia's Academy of Fine Arts, an MFA degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a teaching career at both Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall College. Since 1981, he has lived and worked out of Santa Fe, New Mexico. 

His work begins as a juniper wood carving and is inspired by his interests in shamanism, animism, legend, and mythology. Having traveled the world extensively, he mingles cultures, traditions, stories, religions, and arts together, melding them into a craft honoring creative and spiritual natures. His forms are mythical and dream-like, evoking energies of ritual artifacts that encourage the viewer to go beyond what one sees. His deep love of nature and animals comes through his symbols, and he is particularly interested in the symbolism of bears, wolves, ravens, and owls, as they appear in many of his works. 

Ultimately, Hib Sabin's spiritual sculptures explore a bonding between man and nature.
